Privacy Policy

How Automatic Image Annotation collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal data. Last updated: February 8, 2025.

1. Scope

This policy applies to personal data processed when you use the Automatic Image Annotation website and related services. Third-party services such as Google and our payment provider apply their own privacy policies.

2. Information we collect

  • Account data: email address, display name, sign-in method (email code or Google), email verification status, signup date, and role.
  • Transaction data: order ID, product, amount and currency, payment status, and refund records. We never store full card numbers or payment passwords.
  • Uploaded images: the file you choose, its technical metadata needed to process it, and the object key used to store it privately.
  • Usage data: image allowance ledger entries, image content hashes (used to recognize the same image), feature usage counts, request timestamps, and error logs.
  • Device and log data: IP address, browser type, access times, and security logs used for rate limiting and abuse prevention.
  • Messages you send: feedback, support requests, and appeals you submit by email or form.

3. How we use information

  • Create and maintain your account, sign you in, and secure your session.
  • Process orders, grant image allowances, and handle refunds.
  • Run annotation requests, deduct image allowances, and refund failed requests.
  • Prevent abuse, fraud, and attacks, including rate limiting.
  • Diagnose failures, improve the product, and produce aggregate statistics.
  • Contact you about service changes, security incidents, or policy updates.
We do not use your personal data for unrelated advertising.

4. Images you upload

  • Uploads require a signed-in account. Files are validated by their actual content, not just their extension.
  • Images are stored in a private object store under an account-specific prefix. They are not publicly listable or served as public links.
  • Images and generated labels are kept in your account for your own history, visible only to you. You can delete them from the dashboard at any time, which also removes the stored image.
  • To recognize the same image and avoid charging twice, we compute and store a SHA-256 hash of the image content. The hash is used only for billing and duplicate detection and cannot be used to reconstruct the image.
  • We do not use your images to train our own models. When annotation runs, the image may be sent to a model provider solely to produce the requested description and then discarded under that provider's terms.
  • Only upload images you have the right to use. Do not upload other people's private information, identity documents, or sensitive content.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, remember your language preference, and protect requests against cross-site attacks. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but sign-in, language preference, and account features may stop working.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We disclose it only to service providers that we use to operate the service, with your consent, when required by law or a valid legal request, or when necessary to protect our users, the public, or our legal rights. If we merge with or are acquired by another company, personal data may transfer as part of that transaction, and the recipient will remain bound by this policy.

7. Data retention

Account data is kept while your account exists. Uploaded images and generated labels stay in your account until you delete them. Security and operational logs are kept only as long as needed and then removed. After account deletion we delete or anonymize your data, except transaction records, invoices, and audit logs that we must keep under applicable law.

8. Security

We use HTTPS, access controls, least privilege, encrypted one-time codes, and audit logging. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please protect your email account and sign-in codes. If a personal data breach occurs, we will assess its impact and notify affected users and regulators as required by law.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you can:
  • Access and correct your profile in Dashboard → Account settings.
  • Review image activity and order history.
  • Request deletion of your account or withdraw consent.

10. International transfers

Some providers (payment, email, storage, or model services) may process data outside your country. We require them to protect data under applicable law and use contractual or other lawful safeguards.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service or the law changes. Material changes will be announced on the site or by email, and the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
